Jim G wows 'em at the OzZope April Meeting
We've had our share problems in the past with venues for OzZope
meetings. At this week's meeting we had a hiccup
provided by Hollywood. Nearly every parking meter
in the vicinity of Mi Casa been taken over for the
filming of Ghost Rider, the Nick Nolte film starring Nicholas Cage. Despite this
hiccup John Barratt, Anthony Baxter, Jim Gilbert,
Richard Jones, Melanie Kendall, John La Roy, Andrew
Lowenthal, Daryl Molder and Jan Smith met upstairs at
the Mi Casa. This informal venue seems to work quite
well. As one person said 'the venue was good, the beer
was good, the food um ok'.
Demo
Zope based XML tree extensions by Jim Gilbert from
Vivitec.
Jim showed us his high performance, low bandwidth XML
tree feature for Zope. This standalone product allows
multiple trees, it's extendable and customisable. A
significant feature is that it doesn't require a full
page reload, only the new branch gets reloaded. The
product also allows Drag and Drop, Copy and Drop, and
Reference and Drop of objects. Jim built this on some
very early Zope 3 code featuring the expansion of a
simple tree.
Reaction to the demo was quite vocal, early comments were,
'you did what?' 'why' ' ohhh' 'hmm....'
later the comments were 'ahhh' 'really' 'it's cool'.
Richard Jones and Anthony Baxter enthusiastically
proposed we have a Melbourne based Zope 2 Interface
Sprint using Jim's XML tree. The focus replacing the
existing ZMI for Zope 2. There was general agreement that this was
a good idea.
The meeting finished around 9.30pm
